the last two weeks at the shelter…

Here are the dogs from the last two weeks. The first two are “sisters” (not really sure if they are real sisters but we think they came from the same place) who desperately need homes. They were at the shelter last weekend and this weekend and they are on “the list” unless they are adopted by tomorrow. Two very sweet, kind of scared (wouldn’t you be?) girls…

And then this little, older sweet girl still does not have a home – she’s as sweet as she can be and just needs a place to feel safe. Such a sweetheart:

And last week, there was a pug girl there…she was adopted by this weekend but she sure was cute. I really could have taken her home. She has a little bit of a Dodie face:

saturday’s shelter dogs

Wow…it’s once again been a long time. I almost forgot how to log in to post! I’ve had a lot of things going on personally, but have at least been able to go to the Shelter most Saturdays. This Saturday, there were so many sweet dogs there…so many that didn’t seem like they should be there. Like the 8-year-old Golden Retriever who should be relaxing on a couple of acres, or the dachshund “couple” who were in cages next to each other but couldn’t be put together because they had not been spayed and neutered, and who were so frightened when we went to get them out of the cages for their pictures. And then there was “Buddy”, the big 112-lb. guy that was brought in as we arrived. Sweet as he could be, he just didn’t seem to understand why he was there. And honestly, I don’t either. There are some amazing dogs at the Newnan-Coweta Animal Shelter this week. And all need great forever homes. If you are thinking about getting a dog, I hope you’ll check out your local shelter or rescue organizations before contacting a breeder. There are puppies, young dogs and older dogs just waiting for someone to love them. For more information on these guys, please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website.

whew…it’s been a long time.

I hadn’t realized how long it’s been until I was talking to Frank (my Saturday shelter dog handler) the other week. It has been a crazy time, personally, in the last few months, but I’ve gotten a new routine going and am back at the shelter on a regular basis now. I have a couple of months’ worth of stuff I could update with, but decided to catch up on the NCHS pictures for the month of August. I’ll break this into three posts, so that it’s not quite so much in one. Anyway, enjoy the beautiful dogs. They have all been great. There are so many that need homes…please contact the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society for more information.

and also last weekend.

After Pugs on Parade, I was lucky enough to get to spend the night with some amazing APRA volunteers who have a houseful of pets – dogs, cats and birds. And of course, I couldn’t resist taking a few pictures since there were so many adorable subjects just milling around. :) And these pictures do not represent ALL of the animals…I missed the cats and didn’t want to embarrass the naked bird. And a couple of the dogs were either shy or I didn’t get really great shots of them. Oh well, a great excuse to go back and visit!

So, once again, thanks Ginny and David for the wonderful accommodations, great dinner, tasty wine, and for allowing my pack to hang out with your pack.

two weekends ago…mississippi

So I got to go to Columbus, MS two weekends ago for the Mississippi University for Women’s Alumni Art Show. I had five pieces that were in the show and got to see a lot of old friends and the newly-renovated art building. When I was there, we were in a “temporary” building that ended up being the Art Department’s home for about six years. So it was really exciting to go and see how the renovation turned out. And it was beautiful. Worth the wait. :)

While I was there, I had to get some dog pictures. One dog that I got to visit and take pictures of was Samson (Sambone if you will). He is a little Yorkie who belongs to my friend, Katie Richard, owner of Image 4 Photography in Columbus. The little puppy is belongs to Katie’s next door neighbor. How cute is she?  And of course the Boston Terriers are my son, Josh’s dogs. It was a good dog weekend!

ino and zoey

Ino and Zoey are two absolutely beautiful Morkies (they also happen to be family members…so I’m not partial or anything). I met their mom (my beautiful stepdaughter) for lunch on Easter and we did a little session. I’d taken pictures of Ino when he was a baby but hadn’t gotten any of Zoey, so it was time. They are the cutest brother and sister. And they both adore (really that’s an understatement) their mom. Such sweeties! So here they are…Ino is the older one with the lighter face. When he was Zoey’s age, his face had more dark in it like hers so I don’t know. Maybe Zoey will get a lighter face, too. Either way, they are soooo cute!

major.

My sweet, silly, lovable guy, Major, died today. When I got home this afternoon, he just looked like he was sleeping. He was fine this morning, and he looked very peaceful. I am going to miss him so much.

We are not sure how old he was. A good guess is probably around 12ish. Maybe he was older and we didn’t realize it because of his sweet, puppy-like face and the way he would dance around when he’d get treats or when we’d come home and he’d see us. He was a smiler, too. I just can’t put into words how special he was. We’d only had him a year and three months. I have a big soft spot for the older rescue guys, and he was a perfect gentleman (well, most of the time…he still had some spunk around the ladies). What a special gift he was. For those of you who ever wonder if it’s worth it to adopt an older dog, it is. They are the best.

Rest in peace, my little friend…I’ll miss you more than you’ll ever know.

saturday’s shelter pictures

I was amazed at the different sizes, colors, and kinds of dogs at the shelter this week. And this week I fell in love with one of the dogs, too. I bet those of you who know me can pick out the one. My assistant, Frank, also had one that he thought was special. Another thing that was amazing was how many brand new ones were there. I am not going to be able to be there for the next two weekends and I already know I am going to miss going. It is such a pleasure to go and meet these incredible dogs each week. Here’s hoping and praying that all of these guys have homes soon! For information about any of these dogs, please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website!two-up8

saturday’s shelter dogs (and a few kittens, too)

Saturday I got to go to the  Coweta County Animal Shelter  with the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society  to take pictures of the current dogs. I really missed going last weekend, even though I was having fun in New Orleans. When I woke up last Saturday morning, though, one of the first things I thought was “Oh, I don’t get to take the shelter dogs’ pictures this week.” But I was back this week! And my assistant, Frank (thanks, Frank!) mentioned something that I hadn’t thought about before, that we have such a big variety of dogs that come through there. It shouldn’t be hard for people to find the perfect best friend – there are dogs for everyone!  Oh, and by the way, I don’t take pictures of every single dog, so if you are looking for a companion, please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website to see the full selection of wonderful dogs and cats looking for a home.

Speaking of cats, I did get to take a few cat pictures. Mostly they were kittens. One of the pictures below is not the best technically, but the kitten was so little. I have never seen one that young. This one and its siblings were with their mother, who looked worn out after an apparent caesarean.

So here are the dogs (and kittens):

The tiny baby kitten:

a little behind schedule…

But still here. These are this weekend’s shelter dogs. As usual, they were awesome and so beautiful. My son was in town for Spring Break (I know…poor guy. Had to spend it with his Mom) so he went with me Saturday and fell in love with one of these guys. The whole time we were there, he and his “friend” were watching each other. I really think they connected and it kind of made me sad that he is not able to have a dog right now. Almost all of the dogs there were new, and there had been a lot of adoptions during the week, so we were really grateful to hear that news. OK, as usual, if you are interested in adopting or finding out more about these dogs, please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website.
