cody and lucy

Cody and Lucy are a couple of older dogs that I got the pleasure of meeting this past weekend. Those of you who know me know that I love the older dogs and these two were no exception. Lucy was so good – she did pretty much whatever we asked her to. She was a great model! And Cody…well, those eyes tell it all. He is a beautiful boy who was adopted quite a while ago and has been around longer than most greyhounds. So it was amazing to watch him. He was so willing to try so hard to please his mom and dad. And he did – he was an awesome model, too! So here they are, Lucy (German Shepherd) and Cody (Greyhound), two amazing and beautiful dogs.

the shelter in newnan this weekend

Another weekend with many different dogs, each one with sweet, soulful eyes (as always). I so look forward to doing this each week – it just really puts things into a different perspective after a week of work, daily problems, and all of the other things that take my attention and worry me. :) These dogs don’t ask for anything except a home and a person to care about them. And they are so happy for a little bit of diversion. My assistant, Frank, kind of got attached to the dog in the first photos. He was a sweet one, too, and would watch Frank from his cage when we were doing the others’ pictures. Sometimes they do that. It has happened when my son helped us one weekend…one particular dog just connected with him. He wasn’t able to get a dog at that time, but it was sweet to watch. (And luckily and happily, that particular dog did find a home.)

This post is really image-heavy…I just couldn’t leave anybody out.

Please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website for more information on any of these dogs.

This poor baby was so matted that you couldn’t see any legs and there were like pockets of matted hair all over – I can’t even begin to describe it…it was something like you’d see on TV. I am sure they have him all shaved and cleaned up, but it was so sad to see him like that  – all he wanted was some attention. Hopefully he’ll get a great home and lots of attention from now on…

newnan-coweta shelter this weekend.

I had been out of town two weekends in a row so hadn’t gotten to the shelter. And although I’ve had a blast traveling to Mississippi and Alabama, it was good to be back. Of course, there was a whole different group of dogs this week, just like every week. And as usual, there was a great variety. It never ceases to amaze me. Anyway, as always, if you are interested in any of these available, beautiful dogs (and cats), please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website

Just wanted to say thanks to my dogsitter and friend, Leonor, for helping out this week. My usual assistant, Frank, was unable to be there. We missed you, Frank – see you this Saturday!

Note about the cat: Most of you know I am not a “cat person” (although they are fascinating to watch…sadly I am allergic) but there was a cat (pictured below) that NEEDS a home badly. She’s been there for a long time and is soooo sweet. She just snuggled and loved on the person holding her and was just as sweet as any cat I’ve ever seen. It would be a horrible shame if she was euthanized so if you or someone you know is looking for a cat, she’d be a perfect one!

and also last weekend.

After Pugs on Parade, I was lucky enough to get to spend the night with some amazing APRA volunteers who have a houseful of pets – dogs, cats and birds. And of course, I couldn’t resist taking a few pictures since there were so many adorable subjects just milling around. :) And these pictures do not represent ALL of the animals…I missed the cats and didn’t want to embarrass the naked bird. And a couple of the dogs were either shy or I didn’t get really great shots of them. Oh well, a great excuse to go back and visit!

So, once again, thanks Ginny and David for the wonderful accommodations, great dinner, tasty wine, and for allowing my pack to hang out with your pack.

and last weekend…pugs on parade, birmingham, al

Last weekend was the event that we look forward to all year – Pugs on Parade in Birmingham, Alabama. It is Alabama Pug Rescue’s big fundraiser and it is nothing but fun and pugs all day long. I did a photo booth again this year, just trying to keep it simple. We had pugs, pugs, and more pugs, and then some non-pugs as well. They were all just adorable. And we also got some of the current rescues who are waiting for their forever homes. And as you can see from one of the pictures below, there were big benefits to being my assistant (thank you Steph!)…pug kisses. :)

This will be a pretty image-heavy post because I can never narrow them down. They are just so cute.

two weekends ago…mississippi

So I got to go to Columbus, MS two weekends ago for the Mississippi University for Women’s Alumni Art Show. I had five pieces that were in the show and got to see a lot of old friends and the newly-renovated art building. When I was there, we were in a “temporary” building that ended up being the Art Department’s home for about six years. So it was really exciting to go and see how the renovation turned out. And it was beautiful. Worth the wait. :)

While I was there, I had to get some dog pictures. One dog that I got to visit and take pictures of was Samson (Sambone if you will). He is a little Yorkie who belongs to my friend, Katie Richard, owner of Image 4 Photography in Columbus. The little puppy is belongs to Katie’s next door neighbor. How cute is she?  And of course the Boston Terriers are my son, Josh’s dogs. It was a good dog weekend!
