newnan-coweta humane society / coweta county animal shelter

I have volunteered for several years with Alabama Pug Rescue, as you might know, but have been thinking lately about wanting to do something locally also. So I contacted the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society and they let me come out on Saturday and take pictures of some of the dogs for the website. It was a totally different experience. These dogs need forever homes and families! Most of the dogs I work with have that and these guys were just so different – they were unsure and some were scared, but they all were beautiful. Their eyes said so much. I am hoping that they all find their forever homes soon; they are just too awesome not to! It was a profound and amazing experience, and I hope to go most Saturdays.  Here are a few of the available dogs that I got to meet (and if you see one you’d like to consider adopting, please contact the NCHS!):

pugs+kisses

Yesterday, the Pugs and I headed to Birmingham, AL for Pugs and Kisses, an Alabama Pug Rescue and Adoption event. This is usually a pretty small, low-key event so I thought we could just do some quick valentine cards and print them on the spot:

But we got sooooo busy that it got a little crazy. We got most of them done finally and it was a pleasant surprise to be busier than we thought. We will definitely have to rethink our process if we do that again, though! But it was a lot of fun, and my pugs had a blast (especially Major – pictured above). So here are just a few of the photos (and some out-takes) that I took yesterday for the valentines –  I may have to post a few more tomorrow:

happy valentine’s day…

angeldodieblog

this weekend.

I met up with a couple of other local photographers and we went to Starr’s Mill. They have kids that they brought to use as models, but since I don’t have any of those at home, I brought Dodie. I have to say she did a great job and everyone seemed to be impressed with her modeling skills. I never seem to get tired of taking her picture. I think that’s a good thing. :)

and lastly…

Well, on Tuesday, my daughter called and said that her baby was coming sooner than we thought (she was due February 15). So everything worked out where I could get on a plane and get to her before the baby was born on Wednesday. So I got to see my first grandchild be born. And that was quite an experience. I have had three kids but really had no idea what it would be like. I even got to cut the cord. And mom and baby are doing amazingly well. Baby Mia didn’t need any special care or anything; she was just perfect. Here are a few pictures of my little Mia-Bug. Oh, and I am NOT grandma to her…I’m Nettie to her. :)

I loved it when my daughter said she felt like the Grinch and her heart grew three sizes when she saw Mia. I think mine did too.

Disclaimer: I am not a newborn photographer. But heck, she’s so cute I couldn’t hardly mess up too much.

catching up, part deux.

So after our weekend of one-light discussions and all, after my great guests left, I decided to practice on plain ole’ white seamless paper with, of course, my dogs. (They really enjoyed all of the extra treats.) I really like the simplicity and clarity that you get. And I love the variation of expressions (since there’s nothing else really different!) that they have. I think the simplicity brings out the subtleties of the expressions. And I like that.

catching up.

I have three things to post about today. First, last weekend, a friend of mine, Shawn (Gypsy Isle Photography in Pensacola FL) and her gorgeous sister-in-law, Kappie, came for the weekend. We had a ton of fun. Got to visit Atlanta child photographer, Merav Schwartz’s studio (check out her blog here), discuss one-light studio lighting, and then we did a crazy free-for-all shoot with Kappie in Senoia. We met several other photographers and had a great day of talking and shooting pictures. So, here are a few:
