and last weekend…pugs on parade, birmingham, al

Last weekend was the event that we look forward to all year – Pugs on Parade in Birmingham, Alabama. It is Alabama Pug Rescue’s big fundraiser and it is nothing but fun and pugs all day long. I did a photo booth again this year, just trying to keep it simple. We had pugs, pugs, and more pugs, and then some non-pugs as well. They were all just adorable. And we also got some of the current rescues who are waiting for their forever homes. And as you can see from one of the pictures below, there were big benefits to being my assistant (thank you Steph!)…pug kisses. :)

This will be a pretty image-heavy post because I can never narrow them down. They are just so cute.

two weekends ago…mississippi

So I got to go to Columbus, MS two weekends ago for the Mississippi University for Women’s Alumni Art Show. I had five pieces that were in the show and got to see a lot of old friends and the newly-renovated art building. When I was there, we were in a “temporary” building that ended up being the Art Department’s home for about six years. So it was really exciting to go and see how the renovation turned out. And it was beautiful. Worth the wait. :)

While I was there, I had to get some dog pictures. One dog that I got to visit and take pictures of was Samson (Sambone if you will). He is a little Yorkie who belongs to my friend, Katie Richard, owner of Image 4 Photography in Columbus. The little puppy is belongs to Katie’s next door neighbor. How cute is she?  And of course the Boston Terriers are my son, Josh’s dogs. It was a good dog weekend!

ino and zoey

Ino and Zoey are two absolutely beautiful Morkies (they also happen to be family members…so I’m not partial or anything). I met their mom (my beautiful stepdaughter) for lunch on Easter and we did a little session. I’d taken pictures of Ino when he was a baby but hadn’t gotten any of Zoey, so it was time. They are the cutest brother and sister. And they both adore (really that’s an understatement) their mom. Such sweeties! So here they are…Ino is the older one with the lighter face. When he was Zoey’s age, his face had more dark in it like hers so I don’t know. Maybe Zoey will get a lighter face, too. Either way, they are soooo cute!

major.

My sweet, silly, lovable guy, Major, died today. When I got home this afternoon, he just looked like he was sleeping. He was fine this morning, and he looked very peaceful. I am going to miss him so much.

We are not sure how old he was. A good guess is probably around 12ish. Maybe he was older and we didn’t realize it because of his sweet, puppy-like face and the way he would dance around when he’d get treats or when we’d come home and he’d see us. He was a smiler, too. I just can’t put into words how special he was. We’d only had him a year and three months. I have a big soft spot for the older rescue guys, and he was a perfect gentleman (well, most of the time…he still had some spunk around the ladies). What a special gift he was. For those of you who ever wonder if it’s worth it to adopt an older dog, it is. They are the best.

Rest in peace, my little friend…I’ll miss you more than you’ll ever know.

saturday’s shelter pictures

I was amazed at the different sizes, colors, and kinds of dogs at the shelter this week. And this week I fell in love with one of the dogs, too. I bet those of you who know me can pick out the one. My assistant, Frank, also had one that he thought was special. Another thing that was amazing was how many brand new ones were there. I am not going to be able to be there for the next two weekends and I already know I am going to miss going. It is such a pleasure to go and meet these incredible dogs each week. Here’s hoping and praying that all of these guys have homes soon! For information about any of these dogs, please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website!two-up8

just a little film for fun

I took my film camera (Nikon FA..and oldie but goodie) to New Orleans the other weekend to use just for fun. I took it with me to the French Quarter since there are always good photo ops there. Some of these are my friends and just being a “tourist”.

saturday’s shelter dogs (and a few kittens, too)

Saturday I got to go to the  Coweta County Animal Shelter  with the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society  to take pictures of the current dogs. I really missed going last weekend, even though I was having fun in New Orleans. When I woke up last Saturday morning, though, one of the first things I thought was “Oh, I don’t get to take the shelter dogs’ pictures this week.” But I was back this week! And my assistant, Frank (thanks, Frank!) mentioned something that I hadn’t thought about before, that we have such a big variety of dogs that come through there. It shouldn’t be hard for people to find the perfect best friend – there are dogs for everyone!  Oh, and by the way, I don’t take pictures of every single dog, so if you are looking for a companion, please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website to see the full selection of wonderful dogs and cats looking for a home.

Speaking of cats, I did get to take a few cat pictures. Mostly they were kittens. One of the pictures below is not the best technically, but the kitten was so little. I have never seen one that young. This one and its siblings were with their mother, who looked worn out after an apparent caesarean.

So here are the dogs (and kittens):

last weekend in new orleans…melissa and dustin

ANOTHER UPDATE: Chyrel’s NEW BLOG has a Melissa and Dustin post – more awesome photos of this gorgeous wedding!

UPDATE:  Shawn has posted pictures from Melissa and Dustin’s wedding on her blog…they are awesome!

Last weekend I got to do a wedding with two awesome friends, Shawn of Gypsy Isle Photography and Chyrel of Island Time Studio both from Pensacola. OK, this was an amazing, AMAZING wedding. First off: New Orleans. That in itself was the coolest. But then the whole weekend was one awesome thing after another. First the rehearsal dinner was held at the World War II Museum. It was so BIG! Then the next morning, we got up and went down to the French Quarter to Cafe Du Monde (of course…you can’t go to New Orleans without doing that as evidenced by the long line!) for cafe au lait and beignets. Yum! The hotel we stayed at was nice, and that’s where our bride, Melissa, got ready. There were girls running between three or four rooms. It was happy craziness (but not too crazy)! Once everyone was ready, we headed for the church. OK…it’s not just “a church”, it was St. Louis Cathedral. And it was spectacular. After a sweet, beautiful ceremony we went to the reception at Muriel’s. OMG…it was so cool. Just way too cool! :)

OK, now a little background on the bride (and groom). Melissa is a friend of mine from when we both were at Mississippi University for Women. I went to school a little later in life than most people, so all of my college friends are, ahem, about the age of my oldest son. But they have been some of the best friends I’ve had in my life. And I love every one of them to pieces. I don’t really do weddings, but for this group of friends I make exceptions and I’ve gotten to do several of them. Melissa is one of the sweetest, most humble and gentle people I’ve known ever. And she is someone that you just like immediately. I am sure when she and Dustin first met, he didn’t stand a chance! The first time I met Dustin was at our friend Lee’s wedding (THREE years ago this month…can’t believe it). At Lee’s wedding, instead of throwing the bouquet, she just quietly handed it to Melissa. We knew then that those two were going to be together. And sure enough, here it is three years later and they are on their honeymoon in the Bahamas as I write this!

OK, enough reading for you…here are some pictures from Melissa and her handsome Air Force Pilot, Dustin’s beautiful, amazing wedding:

a little behind schedule…

But still here. These are this weekend’s shelter dogs. As usual, they were awesome and so beautiful. My son was in town for Spring Break (I know…poor guy. Had to spend it with his Mom) so he went with me Saturday and fell in love with one of these guys. The whole time we were there, he and his “friend” were watching each other. I really think they connected and it kind of made me sad that he is not able to have a dog right now. Almost all of the dogs there were new, and there had been a lot of adoptions during the week, so we were really grateful to hear that news. OK, as usual, if you are interested in adopting or finding out more about these dogs, please visit the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society’s website.
